Willunga Farmers Market Celebrates 20 Years

With blue sunny skies and hundreds of smiling faces, the Willunga Farmers Market celebrated 20 years on Saturday, 19 February.

Kicking off the morning with a cooking demonstration from local Andrea Ball of The Green Gourmet for the early birds to enjoy, the day was off to a great start. 3 much loved brands of the Market returned as guest stalls to celebrate 20 years including original stallholder Alexandrina Cheese Company who had just 2 blocks of cheese remaining at the end of a bustling Market!

Pip Forrester AM and Chair of the Willunga Farmers Market welcomed shoppers to the Market and was joined by acting Mayor Marion Themeliotis, Dr Susan Close MP as well as Life members Steve Scown, Steve Ashley, Jake Fowler, Jill Stone, Di Bickford and Zannie Flanagan. Regular shopper and freelance writer David Sly cut the cake and spoke about the joy the Market has brought to the region; for locals enjoying fabulous food and visitors soaking up the generous community spirit.

Shoppers were treated to cupcakes from Tealicious before Jordan Theodoros & Karena Armstrong wowed the crowd with their Market dishes. Showcasing produce from Fleurieu Prime Alpaca, Najobe, Choice Mushrooms, Crikey Tucker, Peninsula Providore and Buff Loves Buffalo Feta (which was Chefs star of the day!). Karena referred to the Willunga Farmers Market as ‘the Fleurieu’s pantry’ and congratulated the Board and volunteers for their contribution to the vibrant food culture in the region.
