Launch of Willunga wine walking trail

Wine walking trail launches in up-and-coming southern town.

A collective of boutique cellar doors in Willunga have gathered together to introduce yet another reason to visit this quaint but emerging town, south of Adelaide.

The Willunga Wander is a self-guided wine walking trail, with hosted tastings along the way from Aphelion Wine Co., Hither & Yon, and Battle of Bosworth.

Beginning just in time for the warmer months, the experience was devised by the winemakers in response to an increase in regional tourism and demand for unique experiences after the past two years of reduced capacities and restrictions.

“We want our guests to be able to experience and savour the charming community we have here in Willunga, while enjoying the journey together and connecting with one another. Willunga is a bit of a hidden secret, especially to those from interstate,” says Battle of Bosworth Owner, Louise Hemsley-Smith

“Connecting with place is also an important value we all have in common. With a strong focus on the environment and sustainability, it is always nice to take the opportunity to walk instead of drive, unwind and slow down,” Hither & Yon Director, Malcolm Leask continues.

Guests are provided a Willunga Wander map upon arriving at Aphelion and are able to mosey their way from one cellar door to the next at their own pace. Stops along the way into local stores and eateries are encouraged, and a Willunga Wander wine glass is provided at the end of the tour as a take-home.

“Within strolling distance, we have world-class Grenache, eclectic shops, country surrounds and fresh air surrounding our slice of McLaren Vale. Willunga Wander reveals the treasures that only locals of our beloved town know about,” says Rob Mack, founder and director of Aphelion.

Experiences start at 11am, seven days a week, and guests have until 4pm to complete their experience, with groups from two to six welcome. Bookings are essential.

In addition to tastings, guests will also receive exclusive discounts on the day, to the three cellar doors as well as local Willunga businesses.

The Willunga Wander is proudly supported by the Government of South Australia, through the Cellar Door Unique Experience Grant Program.
