Hall of Fame for SA’s First Farmers Market

Willunga Farmers Market is celebrating its 3rd consecutive win in the South Australian Tourism Awards for Excellence in Food Tourism. The win elevates the Market into the Hall of Fame and off to represent the State at the National Awards in March 2022.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Market, General Manager Jenni Mitton thanked staff, volunteers, and the passionate Farmers for their efforts in providing an exceptional experience for shoppers throughout the pandemic.

Now in its 20th year of operation, the Willunga Farmers Market is home to more than 70 Farmers and Producers from the Fleurieu Peninsula who trade every Saturday, year-round from 8am until 12noon. An authentic Farmers Market, you’ll Meet the Grower & Taste the Region with fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, meat, diary, olive oil, seafood, baked goods and more – all grown, reared, or baked on the Fleurieu Peninsula. The Market also offers a great destination for breakfast or brunch with coffee stalls, cold press juice and more. Shoppers can even sample local wine from the McLaren Vale wine region, craft beer and gin.

“What a fabulous experience!” said award Judge Andrew Baggaley, “from the pre-arrival review to the initial meet and greet and through to the abundant shopping, it was a faultless experience. Best of all, the interaction with the stallholders outstanding. Obviously, they did not know me, but every stall holder tolerated my Q&A with enthusiasm, gusto, and passion. Even the local interactions with customers were a positive experience. Love the covid safety preparations and visibility.”

Having recently relocated the Market to the grounds of the Willunga High School the Market is well prepared to welcome more visitors when the state’s border opens later this month. Less than 1km from the town’s High Street precinct – come for the Market stay for the day and discover historic Willunga, the heart of the Fleurieu and home to excellent food and wine experiences.
